Historical background

The framework of the marina

In connection with the pier construction in 1997-98, a new west pier was brought ashore. This created an area between the road to the fishing port and the new west pier consisting of sand and shallow water with no drainage.

The management of the fishing port wanted to establish a repair quay for large cutters in the eastern basin, where Bønnerup Strand Bådelaug had been renting its floating docks since 1981. This gave rise to the idea of moving the yachts to a new marina on the reclaimed area.

A commercial foundation was established to build and operate the new marina. Contributors to the foundation capital were Bønnerup Strand Bådelaug, Bønnerup Strand Sejlklub, Den erhvervsdrivende Fond Bønnerup Havn and the then Nørre Djurs Municipality.

The marina with room for 200 boats was built in 1998-1999 with great help from volunteers. The inauguration took place in August 1999.

Ongoing modernization

Large parts of the areas by the marina have been continuously built on with holiday homes, a common house with harbor office, clubhouse for youth sailors, tool sheds, toilet buildings and a fish cleaning station, etc.

At the same time, the harbor was expanded with bridges for permanent and visiting sailors - in 2013/14. The basin north of the marina was renovated and converted for the use of fixed large yachts and in 2025 the northernmost basin was converted into a basin for large yachts when 9 berths of between 6 and 8 meters in width were created.
